Located in the Cayo District, San Ignacio Town is commonly referred to as the Twin Town along with the boardering town of Santa Elena. San Ignacio serves as the cultural-economic hub of Cayo District and is known to have the largest market of fresh produce. For tourists, San Ignacio town is the gateway to adventure as the area around San Ignacio is one of the most popular parts of the country for tourism. Nearby attractions include ruins of Caracol, Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, and El Pilar, the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave, Chaa Creek Nature Reserve, and the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve.
